Common Heating Repair Needs

Heating systems may not seem as important to home comfort in Tallahassee as it is in other parts of the country, especially since we pretty much seem to use our air conditioners all year long.

However, if you do have a furnace or heat pump system in place, you still need it to work well when you are using it, right? We encourage our customers to keep a close eye on their heating systems’ performance so that you’ll know when it’s time to call us for professional repairs.

Read on as we go ahead and list out those common types of heating repairs that you might run into. And give us a call if you notice any strange heating system symptoms.

Loose Wiring or Electrical Connections

Electric furnaces are found in many homes throughout our area, and the good news about these systems is that they typically need fewer repairs over the lifespan of the system than gas furnaces do.

However, they do have certain unique problems they can run into, such as if wires or electrical connections become loose due to the shaking of the indoor air handler. Loose electrical wiring or connections can cause a short and trip a circuit–if this happens once it’s probably not cause for concern, but if you find yourself consistently resetting the circuit for your heater, it’s time to give us a call.

Malfunctioning Sequencer

This is another electric furnace repair need. The sequence is the part of the furnace that staggers the activation of the various electric heating components inside the electric furnace so that they do not all come on at once and overload your electrical panel.

If the sequencer breaks, not all the heating elements will turn on, or maybe even none of them will turn on. Our technicians can replace the sequencer so you don’t have any problems.

Of course, the best way to prevent this issue and the other problems mentioned in this blog post is to be diligent about scheduling professional maintenance!

Failed Electronic Ignition System

This is a problem that can impact both gas and electric furnaces, actually! Modern gas furnaces no longer utilize a standing pilot light, for both efficiency and safety reasons. Instead, it uses an electronic ignition system that creates a spark, which lights up the pilot light or heats up filaments like a light bulb.

Over the years, wear and tear can eventually lead to this ignition system failing, and the furnace’s safety precautions will stop the burners from turning on. If you notice your gas furnace simply won’t turn on, you might need to have our professionals put in a new electronic ignition system.

Lost Connection to the Thermostat

This can happen to any type of furnace or any type of HVAC system for that matter. A set of wires runs from the thermostat to the furnace in order to activate the burners, the blower fan, and the heating elements. If the connection to the electrical panel is lost, then the thermostat can’t signal anything to the HVAC system.

As a result, your heater may not turn on, or alternatively, it might not turn off. It’s important with this issue, as well as the other issues we mentioned, that you not try to diagnose the problem yourself.

We can’t understate out important it is that you call licensed and experienced HVAC pros for your furnace repair needs!
