While in other parts of the country it’s just starting to warm up, it’s almost like summer in our area year-round. So the last thing you need is to come home to a living space that’s too warm because your air conditioner stopped working, right?
Of course, this is a lot less likely to happen if you take proper care of that system. This starts with professional maintenance. During a maintenance tune-up, our professionals comprehensively clean, adjust, and inspect your air conditioner. The inspection part of this process alerts us to any repair needs your system might need, and getting these repairs on your schedule ASAP will ensure that your system is ready to tackle summer this year.
Regardless of whether or not you’ve had maintenance done yet, it’s always a good idea to know the signs that you need AC repairs and to give us a call once you notice any of the indicators we’re about to list below. Staying on top of your AC repair needs, especially with an aging system, is the best way to ensure that your air conditioner performs well this summer.
Sure, we can tell you to call us at the first sign you need repairs for your cooling system. But what if you don’t know what those signs are? That’s what we are here for! Here are some common signs to be aware of that will alert you that it’s time to give us a call for professional repairs.
Have you discovered that your air conditioner has become quite noisy lately? This can be due to a number of reasons. A component might have become loose within the system and is banging around. Or perhaps the lubrication has worn off the motor bearings and is creating friction. Whatever the cause, you should never ignore any sound that’s out of the ordinary for your air conditioner.
If your system seems to be providing powerful air, but there’s still warm air coming from the vents, then that’s a problem. While it could be something as simple as someone adjusting the thermostat—and this is what you should check first—it could alternatively be something more harmful to the system, such as a refrigerant leak.
So maybe the air coming out of your vents is cool, but it’s not very powerful. This might be a problem with a clogged air filter. You should be changing out the HVAC air filter (or cleaning it, if it’s a permanent filter) every 1–3 months during seasons of use—which again, for us is pretty much year-round! Alternatively, this might be a problem with the blower fan, which is definitely something you need a team of professionals to check on for you.
Take a look at your utility bills, and compare them to what you were paying this same time last year, or to what your neighbors are paying for similar energy use. If they’re a lot higher than they should be, it’s a sign that something in your home is working inefficiently, and your air conditioner could very well be the culprit.
