Summer is steadily progressing along, and temperatures aren’t going to cool down any time soon. When you live in a climate like ours, you know as well as we do that our air conditioners have been through a lot of work, and still have a lot to go through this summer and fall. That being said, if you have an older or ill-maintained unit, it may be time to consider if replacement is a good option for you.
If you are considering air conditioner replacement, you’d do well to look into a ductless system! Ductless cooling and heating systems are becoming more and more popular in recent years, and for good reason. Want to learn more? Read on!
Perhaps you’re wondering what exactly a ductless HVAC system is. Also referred to as ductless mini-splits, they’re not all that common in comparison to the more traditional central air conditioners or heat pumps.
Actually, a ductless system is a heat pump. This means that it can both cool and heat your home from the same unit. What makes a ductless system different than a traditional heat pump is that instead of using a network of ducts connected to one big indoor air handler, there is one outdoor unit that connects to up to 4 small indoor air handlers, which can be individually mounted in the rooms where you need them.
You can do an internet search and find a lot of information about ductless systems online, but this isn’t going to tell you if one is right for you. That’s what this blog post is for! A ductless cooling system may be for you if you want:
Increased Comfort: We all have those spots in our home that seem to stay hot no matter how long we run our air conditioners. Sometimes there can be certain areas of the home that need a little extra TLC. Your kitchen, for instance, might be a total heat trap, particularly on days where you use your stovetop or oven to cook a meal.
A ductless system allows you to have an air handler in the kitchen that can be turned down to offer a lower temperature than throughout the rest of the home.
Monetary Savings: Cooling or heating your home in the exact areas where you need it, instead of turning on a central air conditioner and cooling the entire home all at once, saves you energy, which saves you money! It’s far more affordable to circulate conditioned air through the rooms you’re actually occupying than it is to needlessly cool down your entire home.
Easy Installation: When you’re having a new central air conditioner or heat pump installed, you may also need to address old ductwork, particularly if it has tears or holes in it. You’ll want to look at insulation as well, to make sure those air ducts are protected from the elements.
There are no ducts, as the name implies, hooked up to a ductless system. The wall-mounted air handlers are connected to the outdoor unit via a conduit that goes through a small hole drilled in your drywall, for easy and convenient installation!
