So, you’ve decided together as a family that you’re ready to invest in a new heating system. This winter has just been too long, too unpredictable, and too difficult with the system you have now. Wouldn’t it be nice to spend the wintertime doing fun and enjoyable things without having to worry about your heating system? That’s a possibility, but you’re going to need to do some research.
There are a lot of different heating installations in Tallahassee, FL. There are heat pump systems that can both heat and cool your home. There are furnaces, both gas and electric, turning fuel or electricity into heat, and we’ve even got radiant heating units that can transfer heat through the objects and furniture of your home, making your home feel really cozy as the heat wafts up through floorboards.
Before you settle on one system, make sure you know what else is out there or what decisions you need to make first.
First things first, do you have a favorite heating system in mind? Perhaps your neighbor’s gas furnace has worked so reliably each and every year that you’re starting to envy them. A gas furnace can be an exceptionally powerful and efficient system to have set up in your home if it’s what you’re looking for.
Or, consider getting a two-in-one heat pump installed for both heating and air conditioning. These units are favorites for people who like being energy efficient and are eco-conscious because they use electricity to move heat instead of creating more heat. This is great for our mild winters and scorching hot summers.
But there are more systems out there! You might even be better off with a radiant heating system that’s powered by electricity. Make sure you talk to our team to figure out which system might be the best for your home.
Ductwork is a huge cost for most HVAC systems. Since the most common way to heat a home in the US is through forced air (i.e. heating the air of a home), ductwork is usually a requirement. This can be expensive and an aspect of your purchase that you didn’t see coming, so it’s a good idea to budget for this part of the installation as well.
Or, you could always go ductless! There are heat pump systems called “mini splits” which run completely ductless. They use air handlers mounted on your walls, floors, or ceilings, and send the cooled or heated air through the air handlers, keeping certain areas of your home comfortable without the need for hefty ductwork installation.
Now for the fun part. If you’ve got a general idea of the type of system you want and the preferences that go with it, figure out how you want to power it. Every heating and cooling system requires energy to run, whether it’s electricity or natural gas. This is going to impact not only your heating bills but your way of life. Just make sure the system you choose feels right for you and your family.
